Eat Whole Grains

Grains really are the staff of life. Two-thirds of the world's population would starve without them. Fewer than three percent of Americans get the recommended 48 grams per day of whole grains. The average American eats 15 grams of whole grain daily. It is always healthier to eat whole grains when given the choice. Whole grains are some of the best sources of nutritional support, containing high levels of dietary fiber and B vitamins.
Whole grains can help Americans with one of their basic health problems, an inability to maintain a steady level of blood sugar. Whole grains release sugar into the bloodstream slowly, in contrast to the sudden rush and energy crash caused by refined foods. White flour is wheat stripped of its two healthiest parts - the wheat germ and the bran. Where whole grains are high in nutrients and low in calories; the opposite is true for refined grains.
Preparation time for brown rice is short - about a minute. Take it out of the container, measure it, rinse it, and put it in the pot with water or broth. The cooking time is a little longer, but you don't need to hang around the kitchen... especially if you use a rice cooker. Just flip on a timer and go about doing whatever else you need to do.
