President M. Russell Ballard taught, “digital technologies should be our servants and not our masters.” Is this true for you?
Almost five years ago, Elder Bednar gave a talk about the importance of social media in spreading the gospel. Among other things he said, “Beginning at this place on this day, I exhort you to sweep the earth with messages filled with righteousness and truth—messages that are authentic, edifying, and praiseworthy—and literally to sweep the earth as with a flood.” A word in that quote that sticks out to me is authentic. Have you ever heard of the “Bonnie Oscarson test”? When Bonnie L Oscarson was called to be the YW General President, her number of Pinterest followers doubled overnight. After noticing how Sister Oscarson’s pins were all evidence of her integrity, one blogger asked, “Would your Pinterest page pass the Bonnie Oscarson test? … Who will people decide you are if all they know is what is on your social media page?” Comments are closed.
